Welcome join BUSHEY DIVERS

Welcome to the Bushey & Borehamwood Sub-Aqua Club

Bushey & Borehamwood Sub-Aqua Club has enjoyed teaching people to dive for nearly thirty years. We are affiliated to the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) but we do welcome divers from any other organisation.

BSAC: 'Our underwater world is one of amazing new experiences and memorable encounters where you will see and get close to some of nature's most beautiful creations. Diving will take you to new places and introduce you to new friends who will share your fascination for exploring and discovering the vibrant and exciting realm beneath the sea. It is an experience like no other on our planet.'

BSAC Courses

Training

The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) qualification is recognised diving qualification throughout the world.

All of the training with the club is done through the affiliation with the BSAC. We have trained both people who have never been in the water before and current divers who wish to continue with their skills.

The club meets and trains every Thursday evening. The training starts each time with a lecture at the club house and then a practical lesson in the pool. The lectures start at 19:15 and then the pool training begins at 20:40 (meet up at 20:30) finishing at approx 21:40. Most members then meet up again at the club house for drinks, chat and to organise more dives.

For those people that have completed the pool training, the club also organises day and weekend trips away to continue training in open water.

Training within the club does not stop with diving. With the clubs boats we are also able to give boat handling courses, VHF radio courses, etc, as well as other BSAC Skill Development Courses (SDCs).

For more details please contactSimon (our Members member) orPaula (our Training Officer).

Non-BSAC Divers (Other Organisation Qualification)

Should a diver, qualified by another training organisation, wish to further their diver training with the BSAC, the qualifications they already hold are recognised as a starting point for further training by the issue of a Statement of Alternative Training (SALT). With this SALT process, the NEW BSAC member may train for the next higher BSAC qualification.

To assist both the experienced diver joining BSAC, aTable of Similar Qualifications has been devised. This table is based on a comparison of other organisation's training programmes with those of the BSAC, and is kept under continuous review.

Training

All of your training will be conducted by qualified instructors, or assistant instructors under supervision.

Training is a progressive activity and is at your own pace. You will pick up the basics in a swimming pool before progressing into open water. Practical skills are complimented by diving theory given as a series of lectures. Students will soon achieve theOcean Diver certification and with further development and experience, progress to theSports Diver certification and beyond.

The instructor to student ratio for open water lessons is usually 1:1 or 1:2.

Unlike other dive organisations, with us you don't pay for just a course, you join a dive CLUB!

BSAC Courses

All lectures / exams are at the club hut on Thursdays. Arrive at 19:00 for a 19:15 start. (Lecturers - Please make sure you get a key the week before)
